Welcome to College Seekers!
I have been in the education field since 1996 when I moved to Istanbul to teach English. Since then I have worked as an ESL instructor. a technical trainer, a college professor, and an educational researcher. While working on my PhD in education I added homeschool parent to my list of achievements. While I had to take a break from my doctoral work to educate my son, my dissertation topic remains important to me. Access to college has been my main focus both in my research and life.
I have already sent my first son off to college and now am planning for my second son’s future. They are significantly different. One attended the local public high school, while the other is homeschooled. One is strongly academic, the other has learning disabilities. One aimed for highly selective schools, the other will need a much more careful match.
Being a parent of two totally different children mixed with my background in education has given me a unique lens into the world of college admissions. I have experience planning for both the public and homeschooled student, experience in both selective college admission and colleges off the beaten path, and an interest in helping students with learning disabilities.
Once I realized I would be homeschooling for an extended period of time I added a certificate in college admission counseling from the University of California at Riverside to my Masters in Education. Let me know what I can do to help you and your family
